If you are aged 18 years or over, live in Seamer or Crossgates and are interested:

  1. in co-ordinating Community Speed Watch volunteer operations and liaising regularly with North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau, or
  2. in being an operational volunteer with Community Speed Watch and can commit as little as an hour a month or more

For an informal discussion please do not hesitate to contact Andy Jennings, Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer | M: 07777 667232 |

Community Speed Watch

Police trained local volunteers at pre-approved sites use radar equipment to record the speed, registration number, colour and make of offending vehicles. Anyone recorded to be speeding receives a letter from the Police to inform them of their offence and the need to address their driving behaviour. The Police also keep a close watch on the recorded data and may take enforcement measures if a persistent or extreme offender is identified.

Community Speed Watch in the Council's area

Community Speed Watch enhances speed awareness raising, monitoring and enforcement within the Council's area through:

  • the Council’s quiet lane signage gateways at each end of Long Lane in Seamer and Crossgates.
  • the Council’s 4 Vehicle Activated Signs, deployed between 8 sites at 6 locations (2 both ways) in Seamer and Crossgates.
  • Police safety camera vehicle enforcement on Main Street and Ayton Road, Seamer.
  • static enforcement by local Police Officers in Seamer and Crossgates.

The Council has recruited and equipped Community Speed Watch Volunteers, in partnership with North Yorkshire Police, and they have been trained and are operating at approved sites in the Crossgates area. We currently need a new Lead Volunteer/Coordinator.

The Community Speed Watch Guidance Pack is uploaded as a pdf file on this page and can be opened and/or downloaded, below.
