Seamer and District Bowling Club

Sports Field, Pasture Lane, Seamer

Seamer has an excellent flat bowling green situated at the sports field, Pasture Lane.

Bowlers of all skill levels are welcome and for those who would like to try the sport, there are free bowling and coaching sessions and equipment use. As well as social bowling, league and competition bowling is available for the more competitive bowler. Throughout the season, the club organises many friendly matches with visiting teams from all over the UK. In the close season, the club holds regular social events.

Bowling is a pleasant and healthy pastime, so come along and support this fine community facility.

Mobile Library

Visits on Wednesday in 3 week cycles and stops at IRTON- Main St. 9.20, SEAMER - Eastgate 9.40. Bell Close 10.40, Memorial Hall 11.35, Beacon Rd. 11.50. CROSSGATES-Crab Lane 12.15 & Byward Dr. 12.40. Hadrian's Walk 13.30, Heron Lane 13.55, Curlew Drive 14.20. Access for the disabled.

Eastfield Library

Location and access: The library is located on Eastfield High Street just below the main shopping centre at the bottom of the pedestrianised area. Eastfield Community Centre is directly opposite the main entrance. The nearest bus stop, for routes 7 and 17, serves the nearby shopping area.

The library has automatic doors and all areas are accessible to wheelchairs. A hearing loop is available at the counter. Baby-changing facilities are available.

Transport and travel: There is no dedicated car parking, but on-street parking is available adjacent to the library and there are no restrictions in force.

Seamer and District Youth Services

Seamer Youth centre is the home of a number of youth services including Pre-school, 1st Seamer & Irton Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

A committee of volunteers organises the running and maintenance of the centre. Meetings are b-monthly and the committee are always looking for new members. Anyone interested should contact the chairman - Mrs Lucy Haycock. Tel. 862397

Seamer and Irton W.I.

NORTH YORKSHIRE EAST FEDERATION. Seamer and Irton W.l. celebrates its 90th Birthday in 2010. Special events will be organised to mark this achievement. We are sponsoring Seamer Roundabout for a year and hope this will be enjoyed by everyone.

Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month in the Memorial Hall, Main Street, Seamer at 7.30pm. There is an interesting programme of speakers, demonstrations and social activities, that are advertised on the village notice boards. New members are always welcome. Contact Enid Plevey 863590

Seamer Sports Association provides social and sporting opportunities within the Seamer /

Crossgates area.

Facilities include 2 x large TV’s (including Sky Sports). There is a 150 person function room

available free of charge for your private / members parties.

Our range of beers and lagers are most competitive with the local hostelries; Facilities exist

for bowls, cricket, football, pool, bingo and darts.

We currently have 2 senior football teams playing in local leagues 1 and 2 with 9 junior teams covering the age bracket of 7 to 16. (see below)

F.C. Seamer Juniors provides local children the chance to play football in a safe and fun

environment. We have teams ranging from under 7’s to under 16’s.

The club also has 2 adult football teams which play in the Scarborough & District Saturday

leagues 1 and 2 from early September to the end of April.

We say that we have the best facilities locally as the ground is well maintained and the registered players are well managed.

Crossgates Badminton Club

Crossgates Badminton Club meets on Friday evening, 7:15 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Community Centre. We play Badminton at a social level, we do not enter any League teams. We also play Table Tennis. We currently have vacancies for adults who may be interested in joining us. Charges are £2.00 per evening, which includes refreshments. First visit is FREE OF CHARGE. We are a small friendly group, why not come along and try?

Curry Club - we meet on the first Monday of every month, going to local eating establishments and meeting in homes.

Get along club - every Thursday this group go out to lunch together.

Prayer group - meets 7.30pm every Wednesday, all welcome.

ABC - last Tuesday of the month 2.15pm for chat and play, adults, babies and children welcome in the Church.

WRVS always need volunteers to help keep our services running. Young people may like to be involved with emergency services as there are no specific hours or times - just a willingness to be trained to help at any time of emergency.

Dial A Ride

Dial A ride is a local, independent, charity providing fully accessible, safe and reliable door to door transport for older people and those with a disability. We have a fleet of 9 minibuses with low steps, grab rails, ramps or hydraulic lifts. We also have a wheelchair accessible MPV which accommodates 3 passengers plus one passenger using a wheelchair. This particular vehicle is available for journeys further afield, for example York, Leeds, Manchester or beyond

Eligible passengers can use Dial a Ride for any reason - to keep a health appointment, go shopping, visit the hairdresser, family or friends. All staff are CRB cleared at an enhanced level and receive full staff training to ensure our passengers have a safe and enjoyable journey.

Passengers need to register to join and pay £3 a year membership. Age Concern Scarborough and District

Age Concern operates two charity shop from premises in High Street in Eastfield and Wreyfield Drive at Raincliffe. They are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am - 4.00 pm. We welcome all donations received for us to sell in the shops - money raised locally is spent on local services.

Handyperson - assistance with small household repairs.

Link-Workers - Community Outreach workers will visit you in privacy to undertake benefit checks or help with form completion.

They will also provide talks to local groups

Insurance - Age Concern operates an insurance service which has benefits available to all over 50 years of age and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. This is offered on a face to face basis from the Aberdeen Walk Centre Monday to Friday 9.00am - 2.00pm.
