The County Council's North Yorkshire Connect Community Directory (NY Connect) is an online resource for people of all ages, helping them to find out about local activities, services, advice and guidance that is relevant, reliable and accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The directory  https://northyorkshireconnect.org.uk/ has around 7,000 entries that people looking for local services and support can search either by keywords, postcode, area, or by using the category menu.

The County Council has added a new section to the community directory website, dedicated to Coronavirus (Covid-19) support, so that it can also be used by residents looking for support services during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

20/04/2020: Community Support Update - from Scarborough Borough Council

The Borough and County Councils together with the voluntary and community sector are working closely together to make sure that support arrangements are co-ordinated across the Borough and are available for people that need them.

A range of practical support is currently being provided by the Borough Council working together with the Community Support Organisations and other organisations. Our Customer Services staff are contacting people we are aware may be vulnerable and almost 700 people have been contacted in the last week. The capacity of the Council’s Home Improvement Agency (HIA) has also been expanded, and the service is working with, and taking referrals from the Community Support Organisations to provide shopping and prescription deliveries.

The Borough Council is also continuing to provide support to people who are vulnerable, including people who are homeless.

Our Customer First Centre remains open (10am – 2pm) for urgent and vulnerable people who have no other way of contacting the Council and a full range of services is continuing to be delivered by phone.

If you are aware of people that need support, or who require a higher level of support than local groups can provide, please do let them know about the support that is available below.

NYCC call centre 01609 780780

To find the right source of help, the NYCC contact centre can provide comprehensive advice and assessment of people who require assistance due to Covid 19. Information is also available on North Yorkshire County Council’s website  www.northyorks.gov.uk/coronavirus

NYCC can signpost to the Community Support Organisations (as below) and provide more specialist assessment where this is required e.g. for social care needs.

Community Support Organisations

The Community Support Organisations (CSO’s) are now well established within the Borough and are responding to a wide range of calls and assisting people with things such as shopping, collecting prescriptions, signposting to organisations that can offer support, including local businesses that are offering delivery and other services. The Community Support Organisations can provide financial support (through the NY Local Assistance Scheme) for things like food vouchers and electric top ups where people are without financial resources. They are also providing emotional and social support, particularly where people are feeling the effects of isolation. Both CSO’s have good levels of volunteers currently and are working with a wide range of organisations to provide the support required.

A number of groups in the Borough have already been able to access support through this fund. Local businesses are also fundraising specifically to support the Covid 19 efforts within the Borough and this will be distributed through the two ridings fund: https://www.tworidingscf.org.uk

25/03/2020: North Yorkshire County Council’s ‘Coasts Hub’

The County Council's Hub has been set up and is contactable on 01723 232527.

This is the number to contact should people who are ‘shielded’ / self-isolating need any deliveries of food etc.

More numbers will become available once the service is fully set up.

The Salvation Army and the Rainbow Centre are currently delivering food parcels to vulnerable people but it is envisaged that this will transfer to the HUBs to coordinate centrally, with voluntary agencies supporting with deliveries.
